Dean is in the parliamentary constituency of Whitehaven and Workington, Josh MacAlister is the Member of Parliament.

For Local Government purposes it is in the Cumberland unitary authority area. Councillor Andrew Semple is the local councillor covering the parish.

 

The Parish Council meet bi-monthly with the January meeting held in Eaglesfield Village Hall and the remainder of the meetings in The Kirkstile Community Hall, Dean.  

 

The Parish Council is served by twelve Councillors.
